BILOXI — Biloxi officials are relaunching the B-Alert notification system, giving residents and visitors an alternate resource to receive weather alerts and traffic updates directly through their mobile devices.
The city of Biloxi has transitioned to a new platform, RAVE Alert, after experiencing a cybersecurity incident.
The new B-Alert system aims to inform the public about alerts via text message and support dispatch operations by reducing call volumes during major events or emergencies.
“Getting a text directly to their phone lets residents and visitors know what’s going on, what’s impacting them,” City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Cecilia Dobbs Walton said.
Biloxi residents and visitors who wish to sign up for free B-Alert notifications can do so by texting “BILOXI” to 77295.
In addition to weather and traffic alerts, B-Alert will also send boil-water notices.
Residents and visitors who sign up through phone number 77295 may receive alerts from additional phone numbers used by the RAVE Alert system to deliver messages more efficiently.
“But you may receive them from a couple other numbers, and again, we just want to educate the public to let them know that it’s still official city of Biloxi information,” Dobbs Walton said.
Additional information about the B-Alert system, including sign-up instructions and alert numbers, is available from the city of Biloxi.
