BILOXI — A major road expansion on Popps Ferry Road is bringing new infrastructure, a new school and new commercial development to Biloxi.
The Popps Ferry Road extension is more than 40% complete, according to city officials. The project includes water, sewer and storm drainage systems on the south side of the road. Underground utilities are being installed on the north side for the next phase of the project.
“The project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting,” city officials said.
The area will also be home to the new Biloxi Upper Elementary School, which is expected to open on Popps Ferry Road by July 2027.
Commercial growth is also continuing in the area. After 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee opened earlier this year, construction is now underway on a new Chick-fil-A location.
“Biloxi is set to welcome a long-awaited addition as construction is now underway on the new Chick-fil-A location,” city officials said.
The city’s commercial expansion is not limited to Popps Ferry Road.
Sharkheads, a pink souvenir store, is planning to open a second location in downtown Biloxi near the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
“This development will add popular shopping experience to the downtown,” Community Development Director Jerry Creel said in a previous press release.
The development has passed two major city reviews: the Development Review Committee and the Architectural and Historical Review Commission.
More information about Biloxi developments is available on the city of Biloxi website.
