The designation comes through the Mississippi Department of Education’s Military Star Schools Program, which began in 2022 to help military children who often face frequent school transitions.
The association’s notice, postmarked May 5, says its board voted to stop fluoridation April 6, citing supply, safety, testing and equipment concerns. The water system serves about 12,500 residents in Lamar County.
Reeves requested individual and public assistance for five counties that had 88 homes destroyed, 112 homes with major damage and 140 with minor damage.
Grant, a graduate of Lumberton High School and a college football national champion with the University of Alabama, said the camp is the first of his kind in Lumberton.
The grants, awarded to nonprofits, schools and local governments, will fund educational and celebratory programs that highlight Mississippi's role in American history.
Items eligible for drop-off include pesticides, paint, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, ammonia, computers and TVs.
The nationwide effort is led by an alliance of journalists, nonprofit leaders and other supporters who want to highlight the value of reliable local reporting.
