WIGGINS — Stone County’s NAACP branch will host a wellness health fair June 20 at the Stone County Fairgrounds, aiming to educate individuals about the importance of maintaining healthy habits.
The NAACP is known for supporting human rights across the country, with health care being one of its main focuses.
The fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents will have a chance to participate in health screenings, observe and obtain fitness demonstrations, access mental health resources, receive nutrition and wellness information, and take part in many other activities.
Noymi Hartfield, Stone County’s NAACP representative, said the event will serve as a chance to broaden health literacy.
“NAACP members of Stone County hope to see citizens take advantage of the opportunities provided for growth in medical understanding from the many educators who will be present to teach various topics, such as heart disease, nutrition and fitness,” Hartfield said. “They hope people will connect with many businesses that will be present to offer services that can be helpful for current or future needs.”
The organization has not held a health fair in many years because of restructuring of the Health and Human Service Committee. Organizers hope the event will be a success and lead to future health-related events for years to come.
