WIGGINS — Stone County invites residents and visitors to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary by attending the “Celebrate in Stone” event June 6 at Blaylock Park, featuring historical exhibits, patriotic ceremonies, live entertainment, family activities and local vendors.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning with welcoming remarks from Friends of the Library, followed by a D-Day remembrance ceremony honoring veterans and reflecting on the significance of the historic day.
Educational and musical performances, patriotic performances, student historical readings and essay and art recognitions will be held throughout the morning.
A part of the celebration will include the opening of a 1976 time capsule at 4:30 p.m., with remarks about the Bicentennial and a display of items preserved from 50 years ago. The day will conclude with a Pine Hill social gathering from 5 to 6 p.m.
Activities and exhibits will remain open through the afternoon, including local history displays, vendor opportunities, children’s activity stations, a veterans honor wall and a community story booth.
Vendor and costume contests will include categories such as best overall booth, most patriotic costume and crowd favorite booth.
The celebration is hosted in partnership with Friends of the Stone County Libraries, Stone County Economic Development Partnership and Mississippi Humanities.
