GULFPORT — The Gulf Coast Community Foundation is urging South Mississippi residents to donate to local nonprofits Saturday, Feb. 28, as part of its annual 228 Day giving campaign.
Named after the Coast’s 228 area code, 228 Day is a regional fundraising effort that connects donors with participating nonprofits serving communities across Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties.
While the official day of giving is Feb. 28, the campaign has expanded into a monthlong initiative that includes fundraising drives and public events throughout February.
This year’s participating organizations include the Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport, the Junior Auxiliary of Hancock County and PrepareHER Now, which provides mentorship and life skills training for girls ages 8-18.
Events held during the month include a movie night hosted by the Biloxi Shuckers at Keesler Federal Park, highlighting how the campaign has grown beyond a single day of giving.
Residents who donate through Mississippi’s Endow Mississippi Tax Credit Program may qualify for a 25% state tax credit.
More information about participating nonprofits and how to donate is available on the 228 Day website.
