LUMBERTON — Lumberton’s first food pantry will open April 25 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, giving residents a new local option for food assistance.
The pantry is being launched by Roof Above Resilience, a nonprofit founded by Lumberton resident Estina Holder. Holder said she expects more than 100 people to visit each Saturday from 9 a.m. until supplies run out.
Holder said the pantry is meant to serve Lumberton and nearby communities, where many residents have limited access to food assistance close to home.
“We want it to be a community effort for everyone in Lumberton and surrounding areas,” Holder said.
She is asking supporters to donate through Roof Above Resilience’s Venmo, Cash App and PayPal accounts. Donation drop-off sites for goods and nonperishable items will also be set up around the city.
The pantry follows months of planning by the nonprofit, whose organizers said they hope to expand services in the future.
