PEARL RIVER COUNTY — Visitors to the Carriere Park Walking Trail now have access to two restrooms, a covered patio area and a paved walkway through a $150,000 grant-funded improvement project.
The Pearl River County Economic Development Office completed the Carriere Park Restroom Project, which is now ready for public use.
The project was funded through the Recreational Trails Program, a state partnership funded through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors entered into a financial agreement totaling $150,000, with the program covering 80% of the cost. The county’s share is $30,000.
Economic Development Director Lindsay Ward said the project gives park visitors a covered space during storms and continued access to restrooms.
“It’s been great feedback because previously, you know, that park did not have a restroom,” Ward said. “If a family were to go out there and play with their children around the trail or throughout the park… there was no restroom for them to use or really a covered area.”
Ward said the project also addresses community concerns by adding a fully paved concrete walkway and patio area.
The project is complete and ready for public use.
