PEARL RIVER COUNTY — Pearl River County officials are encouraging residents to safely dispose of hazardous household materials during Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, March 7.
According to a county news release, the event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pearl River County Health Department, 7547 Highway 11, Carriere.
County officials said the event is intended to provide residents with a safe and responsible way to dispose of items that should not be placed in regular trash.
Items accepted during the collection include aerosols, household chemicals, poisons, flammable liquids, car and small batteries, mercury and mercury-containing items, fluorescent and compact bulbs, fire extinguishers, propane tanks and electronics.
The county will not accept infectious waste or debris; sharps or needles; medications or other materials regulated by the Drug Enforcement Administration; radioactive waste or explosives; fireworks; or ammunition.
The event is funded through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, county officials said.
