HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Transportation District Commissioner Charles Busby announced significant progress on multiple Mississippi Department of Transportation projects across southeast Mississippi. Major efforts include widening I-10 in Harrison and Hancock counties, a $155 million project expected to finish in 2027, and a $212.6 million widening of State Route 57 in Jackson County, also set for completion in 2027. Other work includes safety improvements on I-59 in Forrest and Jones counties, widening U.S. 49 in Harrison County, reconstructing the I-10 Diamondhead interchange, replacing the U.S. 11 bridge in Pearl River County, and pedestrian upgrades on U.S. 49 in Harrison County. Numerous overlay, widening, and bridge preservation projects are also underway or recently completed in counties including Perry, Greene, Jones, Stone, Clarke, and George. Busby urged drivers to slow down in work zones to protect crews and motorists.
