MCLAIN — Seniors and caregivers in Greene County will have an opportunity to connect with health care, financial and community support services during the McLain Health and Resources Fair on Aug. 11.

According to organizers, the event will be the first communitywide health and resource fair held in McLain. The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McLain Volunteer Fire Department and is open to residents of all ages.

The Town of McLain is hosting the event in partnership with the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District to bring services directly to residents, particularly older adults and caregivers who may have limited access to available resources.

“You don’t know what you need until you see it available. We’re just trying to pull the resources in to give them the picture of what making life a little easier they could look like,” said Stephanie McCoy-McLendon, Greene County economic development director.

Organizers said confirmed participants include Singing River Federal Credit Union, the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District and the MAC Center. Representatives from the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services and several health care agencies are also expected to attend.

The fair will feature information on elder care, workforce development, financial services, advocacy programs and other community resources designed to support seniors, caregivers and families.

“We have a lot of seniors who are taking care of children, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, or are being cared for themselves. When people are dealing with different situations, it can be emotionally, physically and financially hard,” McCoy-McLendon said.

Organizers encourage anyone interested in learning about available community services to attend.
