FORREST — JB Boxing & Fitness is hosting ‘Cinco de Mayo Box Night’ May 2 at The Center at Forrest County, featuring a mix of local professionals and amateur fighters on the fight card.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and the event begins at 5 p.m., featuring 15 fights— three professional and twelve amateur matches.
The main event fight will be Javion “Killa Red” Smith vs Kyle Massoth in the pro main. Massoth is replacing an injured “Mujahid” Zabir, who was Smith’s original opponent.
Javion Smith, who’s making his pro debut against Massoth, told RHCJC staff he expects a round three win with a body shot.
Smith said he started boxing because of his mother, who had been standing a few feet behind Javion and raised her hand with pride.
“I got four brothers, so we were always physical. So, we had to find an alternative… and boxing just was that,” Smith said.
Smith has had over 80 amateur fights. He’s also been a Junior Olympic nationals ringside world champion and a six-time Golden Glove champion.
For the amateur fights on the card, Jaden “El Pantera” Santos vs Big Woog is the main event. The fight is a rematch of the two’s fight on Dec. 20, 2025, at the Golden Gloves.
Santos, who won the first match between the two at the Golden Gloves, said he will not underestimate his opponent, mentioning the first fight gave him the blueprint on how to win the rematch.
“Just expect the third round knockout May 2,” Santos said.
A press conference will be held on May 1 at Nostalgia Bar & Lounge from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to preview the fights happening the next day. From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 2, a children-focused day event will be held at The Center.
Rapper ABGR Lil Cory will be doing his first ever ring-walkout, walking out Derrian “Huncho” Herron for his fight against Juston “Big Dawgg” Wright.
The event will also have concessions available, and a special ‘JB Cinco de Mayo’ alcoholic drink available for those over 21.
Before taxes and fees, general admission tickets are $35, ringside seats are $75, and VIP tables are available for $200-$300.
Joshua Brown, owner of J&B Boxing & Fitness and the promotor of Cinco de Mayo Box Night, said he had a message for everyone, particularly to children.
“If anybody has ever told you that you can’t do something, what’s in your heart, what it’s in your dreams, believe me, you can do and be anything that you want to be by using the ability that God placed on the inside of you,” Brown said.
