Student Jobs

A key mission of the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center is to train the next generation of media professionals. We invite high school, community college, and university students — preferably those with an interest in media or a major or minor in communication — to apply for paid, part-time positions at the center, and we also offer, under certain circumstances, positions that offer class credit. Volunteers interested in finding their niche in the media sector are also welcome to apply.

HIGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS
We work with various Mississippi high schools and community colleges to offer paid positions or class credit. One requirement for high school and community college student employment is successful completion of the university’s Introduction to Community Journalism class. Applications for these positions are currently closed, but high school and community college advisors can recommend individual students for employment by speaking directly with Nichole Cyprian, center director. Contact her at 601-266-5166 or by email at [email protected].
STUDENTS FROM OTHER MISSISSIPPI OR OUT-OF-STATE UNIVERSITIES
The center welcomes student interns with majors or minors in communication or related fields from other Mississippi and out-of-state universities. These positions may be paid or may qualify for internship class credit. Apply for the paid internships by completing the application and submitting the required supporting materials, including two work samples, one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or other professional, and responses to three questions:
