What is Community Journalism?
Community journalism is a style of reporting that focuses on the issues, events, and voices of a specific community, often at the neighborhood or local level. It aims to foster connections, reflect diverse perspectives, and address topics that directly impact the lives of residents, empowering them through accessible, relevant, and trustworthy information.
According to the Columbia Journalism Review, community journalism “…further envisages the media as a truly collaborative partner and community builder.” At the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center, we improve our communities by being active in them, listening to their unique issues, and tackling their challenges through strong and solutions-oriented journalism.
