Southeast Mississippi Planner

The Southeast Mississippi Planner is an upcoming resource from the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center designed to keep residents informed about local government activity, public meetings, community events and regional announcements. The Planner will serve as a centralized, easy-to-use hub for trustworthy, county-specific information across southeast Mississippi.
What Will the Planner Include?
When launched, the Planner will feature regularly updated content such as:
— Meeting Agendas and Minutes: A curated list of local government meeting notices and official minutes from city councils, county boards, school districts and planning commissions.
— Community-Submitted Updates: Local events, announcements and other items of interest submitted by residents, nonprofit groups and community organizations.
— Press Release Summaries: Brief, clear recaps of verified press releases issued by local governments, schools and public agencies.
— Meeting Recaps: Occasional in-person coverage of public meetings, including short written summaries and, when available, photo or video elements.
— Weekly Highlights: A roundup of key meetings, decisions and events to watch each week.
When Will the Planner Launch?
The Southeast Mississippi Planner is currently in development and is expected to launch in summer 2025.
Who Is Behind the Planner?
The Planner is produced by student journalists working at the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center. These students are guided by full-time RHCJC staff members — veteran journalists with professional newsroom experience — who provide oversight, training and editorial support. Together, the team curates and verifies information that connects residents to public life in their communities.
Want to Contribute?
Once the Planner launches, residents will be able to submit public events, announcements and meeting notices for consideration.
